Bruno Prieto

I’m a blind programmer, passionate about web development and accessibility.

I’ve helped make Chile’s national university entrance exams accessible for future students, and I built my own command-line tool just to be able to read my scientific documents for class.

This belief in a direct, minimalist approach is what led me to Ruby on Rails, where I discovered a way to build web applications without unnecessary complexity. I honed that craft at companies like Buk and 37signals, and now I use it to run my own company, Callback Systems. We help businesses build truly accessible products, and we’re also creating our own software—ment, which simplifies scheduling for service providers and their clients.

I’m a maintainer of the Hotwire framework, a contributor to Ruby on Rails and other related projects, and the creator of an open-source Focus Trap package. In 2024, I had the honor of sharing my approach at Rails World in Toronto with my talk, “Making accessible web apps with Rails and Hotwire”.

And when I’m not at the keyboard, I’m probably behind a drum kit playing along to Iron Maiden.

I share more of my stories right here on the blog, and I’d love to hear from you!
